The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC) on Wednesday destroyed 491,000 tablets of seized Tramadol 225mg in Kano as part of efforts to safeguard public health in Nigeria.
Dr Martins Iluyomade, Director of Investigation and Enforcement at NAFDAC, supervised the destruction on behalf of the Director-General, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye.
According to Adeyeye, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kano/Jigawa Command, intercepted the consignment after an attempt by smugglers to bring it into the country.
“On 28 May 2025, the NCS, under Comptroller Dalhatu Abubakar, successfully intercepted the consignment,” she said.
She explained that the tablets, packed in 491 rolls, were abandoned by the smugglers after being overwhelmed by customs officials.
“The duty value of this consignment is ₦91 million. This operation demonstrates excellent inter-agency collaboration aimed at curbing the menace of illicit drug trade in Nigeria,” she added.
She reiterated the agency’s commitment to protecting public health and urged citizens to report suspicious drug activities for prompt action.
Representing the NCS Area Controller, Yusuf Idris, Deputy Controller of Enforcement, said the Tramadol was intercepted at the Mai Gatari border axis while en route from Niger Republic.
