An aircraft carrying European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was subjected to deliberate GPS jamming allegedly carried out by Russia while en route to Bulgaria, officials confirmed on Monday.
“We can confirm there was GPS jamming but the plane landed safe,” a commission spokeswoman said.
Bulgarian authorities, according to the commission, suspect Moscow was behind the interference.
“We are well aware that threats and intimidation are a regular component of Russia’s hostile actions,” the spokeswoman added.
She said the incident would only strengthen the EU’s resolve to enhance its defence capabilities and continue its support for Ukraine.
