The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has apprehended four suspects in connection with acts of vandalism and the sale of stolen public property.

The arrests were made during an intelligence-led raid on two scrap dump sites in Uyo on July 15, according to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, on Friday.

John disclosed that the operation began around 4:45 p.m. following the arrest of a suspect during a separate raid. The suspect reportedly provided actionable intelligence that led operatives to locations where stolen items were being stored and traded.

“Acting on this intelligence, at about 9:00 p.m. the same day, operatives of the Command raided two scrap dump sites where three additional suspects were arrested,” she said.

Recovered from the suspects were several items believed to be stolen, including components of generator sets, vandalised government aluminium electric cables, roofing sheets, and burnt copper wires.

Also seized were a brand-new set of assorted spanners, approximately half a bag of five-inch nails, an empty 5kg gas cylinder, galvanised pipes, and angle bars.

DSP John noted that investigation into the case is ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court upon its conclusion.
