The Ministry of Petroleum Resources has opened condolence registers at its headquarters in Abuja to honour the late former President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari.

This development follows the presidential directive that all Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) open condolence registers in tribute to the former president.

In a statement on Thursday, Mr. Christopher Ugwuegbulam, Head of the Press and Public Relations Unit of the ministry, disclosed that the registers were located at both the basement and ground floor of the ministry’s wing of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) Towers in the Central Business District.

Leading the solemn exercise were the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri; the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Dr. Ekperikpe Ekpo; and the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Emeka Vitalis Obi. Each took turns to sign the condolence register, offering their personal tributes to the late leader.

They were joined by directors, unit heads, staff of the ministry, stakeholders in the oil and gas sector, and members of the public, who continued to sign the register as a mark of respect, solidarity, and reflection.

According to Ugwuegbulam, the condolence register offers a space for Nigerians to express heartfelt sympathies, share memories, and offer words of comfort to the bereaved family and the nation at large.

He noted that the gesture also celebrates the enduring legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, who not only served as Nigeria’s president but also made landmark contributions as a former Federal Commissioner for Petroleum, leaving a lasting imprint on the nation’s oil and gas landscape.

“The Ministry stands united with the nation and the international community in mourning the loss of a visionary leader and patriotic statesman, whose contributions to national development, especially in the petroleum sector, will remain etched in history,” he stated.
