The Centre for Human Rights Advocacy and Wholesome Society has commended the Abia State Government for its recently launched Smart Schools initiative, describing it as a forward-thinking step toward modernising education in the state.
Mr. Chuka Okoye, the Executive Director of the organisation, gave the commendation in a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Aba.
He praised the state’s partnership with Blue Giraffe Development Ltd., formalised through a Memorandum of Agreement, as a positive sign of commitment to building a digital knowledge-based economy.
“This commendable initiative signals a visionary leap towards modernising education and equipping the next generation of Abians with the tools for a digital economy,” Okoye stated.
While applauding the project, the group called for equity, transparency, and inclusiveness in its implementation.
“We urge the government to publish the terms of the agreement with Blue Giraffe, including project timelines, financing model, procurement details, and implementation framework,” the statement said.
The group also advocated for a community-driven approach, urging the state to engage teachers, parents, civil society organisations, and local leaders in the planning and execution phases.
To ensure balanced development, the group recommended that similar smart schools be established in both urban centres and underserved rural areas across the state.
Additionally, the organisation advised the Abia State Ministry of Education and relevant agencies to complement the initiative with robust teacher training, digital curriculum development, and learner-focused programmes.
