The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Ogun chapter, has presented awards of excellence to the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, and eight officers in the state.

National Chairman of PCRC, Alhaji Ibrahim Olaniyan, said during the ceremony that the honour was to appreciate the command for putting their lives on the line for citizens’ safety. He declared the Ogun chapter the best nationwide, citing its pioneering efforts in practical community policing.

“The Nigerian Police are not known for blowing their own trumpet, and the next family member to them is the PCRC, hence the need to celebrate them. Community policing started in Ogun because it has always involved members of the public,” Olaniyan said.

State Chairman of PCRC, Mr Samson Popoola, explained that the recognition was in appreciation of the professionalism and sacrifices of the command, which had led to a drastic reduction in violent crimes such as kidnapping, ritual killings, cultism and armed robbery in recent months.

“Today is not just a ceremony; it’s a celebration of excellence, dedication, and gallantry in the service of our dear state and nation. These awards are a token of our appreciation, but beyond that, they are a symbol of encouragement—reminders that the society you serve diligently is watching and grateful,” he added.

In his response, Ogunlowo thanked the PCRC for acknowledging the command’s efforts, stressing that the achievements would not have been possible without the support of the public, which the PCRC represents.

He also commended the state governor for providing logistics and other assistance that made the command’s work easier.

“When you work and you’re accorded recognition, it makes you feel accomplished and want to do more. With support from the IG, the governor, and the people of the state, we’ll continue to keep Ogun peaceful and safe at all times,” the CP said.

NAN reports that seven officers received the Grassroots Policing Awards, one officer was honoured as Community Policing Ambassador, while the CP was presented with the Digital Crime Buster Award.
