Police on Friday arraigned a 20-year-old bricklayer, Abdul Mohammed, before a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing two Geepee water tanks.

Mohammed, who resides behind Alkaabs Homes, Life Camp, Abuja, is facing charges of criminal conspiracy, trespass and theft.

He, however, pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutor Charity Nwachukwu told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Aug. 15 at a construction site in Life Camp.

She said the complainant, Musa Kabiru, a security guard near the site, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on Aug. 18.

Nwachukwu alleged that the defendant conspired with one Yusuf (surname unknown), of Galadima, Abuja, now at large, to invade the site and cart away two Geepee water tanks, value yet to be ascertained.

She added that the defendant was later arrested and during interrogation, made a confessional statement but failed to give a satisfactory explanation for his actions.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 97, 348 and 288 of the Penal Code.

Chief Magistrate Musa Jobbo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.

He ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case until Oct. 20 for hearing.
