The Ekiti Government has urged its contingent to the 9th National Youth Games in Asaba to give their best performances and bring honour to the state.
Dr. Olusola Osetoba, Technical Adviser on Sports Development to Gov. Biodun Oyebanji, gave the charge on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti before the departure of 103 athletes for Delta.
Starreporters account that Ekiti will compete in 20 events at the Games, which run from Aug. 26 to Sept. 7. The sports include athletics, badminton, table tennis, para-athletics, judo, karate, chess, ayo olopon, kickboxing, kung fu, para-powerlifting, weightlifting, basketball, tennis, scrabble, golf, gymnastics, boxing, and cricket.
Osetoba commended the governor for supporting the athletes’ participation and praised the commitment of coaches and players during their preparations.
She described the Games as a platform for young athletes to showcase their talents, build character, win medals, and promote national unity.
“I urge our athletes to be good ambassadors of Ekiti at the National Youth Games. I believe they will make the state proud,” she said.
Some athletes also expressed gratitude to Gov. Oyebanji for his continued support and provision of opportunities for young talents to thrive in sports.
