The Police Command in Anambra has detained 24-year-old suspected vehicle robber Chidi Nwoye and recovered stolen vehicles and other items in Obosi Community near Onitsha.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesman of the command, said operatives from Isiowulu Police Division, working with a local vigilante group, apprehended the suspect on Aug. 22.
Recovered items include a Hyundai Tucson vehicle (registration PH 725 AAA), a tricycle (registration NSH 051 UD), eight mobile phones, a black faze cap marked “AVG Special Force”, a battle axe, a driver’s licence, two bunches of keys, four master keys, two ATM cards, a Permanent Voter Card (PVC), a vehicle tracking device and a sensor.
“The suspect was intercepted on Minaj Road in Obosi community while operating a stolen tricycle,” Ikenga said, adding that Nwoye confessed to using master keys to steal vehicles and tricycles from their parked positions.
He said investigations had been extended to the suspect’s den and those of his accomplices for possible recovery of additional stolen items.
Ikenga urged members of the public whose items were recently stolen to visit Isiowulu Police Station for identification and recovery. The suspect will be charged to court after investigations conclude.
