The Enugu State Police Command has arrested six suspects linked to armed robbery and cult-related activities in different operations across the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued in Enugu.
He explained that operatives recovered firearms, drugs, and other incriminating items from the suspects, who are currently in custody.
According to him, four men were apprehended on August 22 by the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad following earlier confessions from another suspect arrested for cultism, armed robbery, and illegal possession of a firearm. One locally made gun, an expended cartridge, and substances suspected to be methamphetamine, popularly known as Mkpuru-miri, were also recovered.
Preliminary investigations revealed that two of the suspects belong to the Black Axe Confraternity, while the others confessed membership of the Vikings cult group.
Similarly, on August 19, police operatives, working with the Neighbourhood Watch Group, arrested a 48-year-old man in Ogor-Affa, Udi Local Government Area, and recovered a locally made pistol from him. He also admitted belonging to the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, reassured residents of the command’s commitment to clamp down on criminal activities. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to the police through its control room numbers.
