Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) on Wednesday conducted a training session for 68 skills instructors aimed at strengthening vocational education across the state.

Mrs Bolaji Dada, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, said the initiative was designed to boost service delivery and innovation within WAPA’s various skills acquisition centres.

Dada, who was represented by Mrs Adejoke Oshodi-Olasunkanmi, Director of the Skill Acquisition Development Unit in WAPA, said the training, themed “Upskilling of Instructors”, was focused on key areas such as catering, hairdressing and cosmetology, and computer studies.

“This training is a significant step forward in our ongoing effort to ensure excellence in the delivery of vocational education across all WAPA Skill Acquisition Centres,” she said.

According to her, the effort aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision to develop self-reliant, skilled, and productive residents, particularly among women and vulnerable groups.

“This training is not just about knowledge transfer, it is about promoting continuous quality improvement, innovation and empowering our facilitators, to raise the standard of training delivery. When instructors grow, the entire system benefits — trainees become more competent, employable, and better prepared for entrepreneurship,” she added.

She encouraged participants to make full use of the opportunity to expand their knowledge, stressing that the contributions of frontline educators were invaluable.

Dada also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to continued investment in human capital development.
