Two students of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Eruchalu Izuchukwu Augustine and Duke Chijiamaka Jonathan, have departed for Nevada, United States of America, to participate in the prestigious Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) for Student Leaders Program.

StarReporters gathered this information from the official social media handle of the Vice-Chancellor of UNIPORT, Professor Owunari Georgewill, who proudly announced the students’ selection and departure.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the SUSI program is a fully sponsored initiative of the United States Department of State, designed to nurture emerging leaders, broaden their global perspectives, and build capacity in areas such as civic engagement, leadership, and environmental sustainability.

We urged them to be good ambassadors of the University of Port Harcourt,” Professor Georgewill stated, “having emerged from such a highly competitive selection process for this program.

Eruchalu Izuchukwu Augustine, one of the selected students, is a 300-level student in the Department of Microbiology. He is known for his strong interest in environmental microbiology, an area that aligns with the core themes of the SUSI program, particularly in sustainability and civic responsibility.

The Vice-Chancellor commended the students for distinguishing themselves and noted that their selection reflects the academic strength of the university.

In the accompanying photograph posted online, the duo were seen at an international airport terminal. Standing side by side, they were dressed in casual attire and appeared ready to embark on their international journey.

The Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) for Student Leaders is a flagship academic exchange program that brings together young leaders from around the world for intensive academic sessions at U.S. universities. Participants engage in classroom instruction, field visits, community service, and cultural exchange, all designed to deepen their understanding of U.S. society while refining their leadership skills.

Professor Georgewill expressed confidence in the students’ ability to serve as worthy ambassadors of the University of Port Harcourt on the international stage.
