Leaders of the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) have launched a nationwide sensitisation campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections, intensifying efforts to consolidate the group as a strong opposition force.

The mobilisation drive, which began on Monday, includes consultations across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones and aims to attract prominent political stakeholders into the emerging coalition. Among those reportedly involved in the movement are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Governors Rotimi Amaechi and Nasir El-Rufai, as well as Dr Umar Ardo.

Sources revealed that the ADA chieftains are working to build a formidable anti-Tinubu front, with consideration given to merging with or adopting structures of existing parties like the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or the Social Democratic Party (SDP). However, the coalition has now submitted a formal application to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register ADA as a political party.

In a letter signed by Chief Akin A. Ricketts, the Protem National Chairman, and addressed to the INEC Chairman, the group requested registration under the name All Democratic Alliance (ADA) with the slogan “Justice for All.” The letter was backed by the Nigeria National Coalition Group, which is sponsoring the registration process.

Attached to the application were ADA’s constitution and party manifesto, outlining its ideological stance, operational structure and commitment to democratic principles in line with Section 40 and 222 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and Section 75 of the Electoral Act 2022.

The coalition has already begun drawing support from various quarters. According to recent reports, a coalition of youth representatives, led by AbdulAziz Akinsanya, pledged their backing during a recent meeting with Atiku Abubakar, presenting a strategy document on how young Nigerians can be mobilised to shape the 2027 elections.

As political manoeuvring intensifies, ADA’s emergence reflects broader realignments within Nigeria’s opposition landscape, as key figures seek a united platform to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next electoral cycle.
