The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has called on all accredited tertiary institutions to verify and upload their students’ data on the Student Loan Application System (SLAS) to facilitate timely processing and disbursement of student loans.
This directive was announced in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday by Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications.
According to the statement, SLAS has been fully digitised to enhance the student loan application experience for both institutions and applicants.
“With this upgrade, all accredited institutions are now required to request access to SLAS to verify and upload student data related to loan applications,” Oluwatuyi said.
She emphasised that verification and data upload by institutions are mandatory before final approval and disbursement can be completed.
“This is a critical step that ensures the timely processing and disbursement of approved student loans. Institutions that have not yet onboarded onto the system are kindly requested to send an access request to registration@nelf.gov.ng without delay,” she added.
Once access is granted, institutions will have real-time visibility into their students’ loan applications, enabling them to verify submitted data and monitor each application’s status.
Oluwatuyi also explained that any student whose portal status currently reads “Verified” has passed the initial checks. However, final approval and loan disbursement will only follow after institutional confirmation and data upload.
“Once this process is completed, your status will be updated to ‘Disbursed’ when the payment of your fees has been processed,” she said.
Students needing assistance are encouraged to contact the fund via email at info@nelf.gov.ng. Additional support is available through its social media platforms: X (formerly Twitter) @nelfund, Instagram @nelfund, and Facebook and LinkedIn under Nigerian Education Loan Fund – NELFUND.
