A powerful windstorm has wreaked havoc in Njegbeje Village, Igodor Community, Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State, leaving over 50 houses destroyed and dozens of residents homeless.

The windstorm, which was followed by a torrential downpour on Sunday night, caused widespread destruction to properties reportedly worth billions of naira.

Following the incident, Ogoja council chairman, Chief Christopher Agbeh, visited the affected area on Wednesday to inspect the damage.

Speaking to journalists after the assessment, Agbeh described the incident as a “monumental and natural disaster.”

He urged swift intervention from all levels of government to ease the suffering of those affected and begin the process of rehabilitation.
