According to a statement issued in Abuja on Friday by NESREA’s Assistant Director of Press, Mrs Nwamaka Ejiofor, the affected facilities span several sectors and are located in Anambra, Enugu, Bayelsa and Rivers states.

Ejiofor explained that the infractions include failure to conduct Environmental Impact Assessments before project commencement, absence of Environmental Audits, and lack of functional effluent treatment plants, among others.

Facilities sealed during the enforcement exercise include Rugal Pharmaceutical in Emene Industrial Layout, Enugu; China Communication Construction Company (CCCC) in Owo Yard, Enugu; Hardis and Dromedas in Umunya, Anambra; and Pinnatech Engineering Asphalt Plant in Awkuzu, Anambra.

Others are China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) on Obogoro Road, Swali, Yenagoa; Megastar Technical and Construction Company Limited on Imiringi Road, Yenagoa; and Multi Plan Nigeria Ltd. in Okuru-Ama, Trans-Amadi Industrial Layout, Port Harcourt.

The Director-General of NESREA, Prof. Innocent Barikor, urged operators to comply with environmental laws in the course of their operations.

He noted that the agency would continue such enforcement actions to protect the environment and deter future violations.
