David Amakiri, has won Nigeria’s and Africa’s first Christian reality television show.

Amakiri, a 200-level student of Biomedical Technology at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), beat eight other contestants to claim the top prize of N1 million.

The undergraduate triumphed over several graduates by scoring the highest marks in a series of assessments, which included essay writing and general knowledge tests on politics, current affairs, medical sciences, and Christian religious knowledge.

Speaking with a correspondent in Port Harcourt on Monday after his victory, Amakiri, a native of Kalabari in Rivers State, credited his win to diligent preparation.

“I really prepared hard for this competition and I’m quite humbled to have emerged winner among other equally talented contestants. All I can say is that I will do everything possible to live up to the high expectations,” he stated.

Amakiri also expressed appreciation to the judges and organisers for their dedication in delivering the show.

Mr Abuoma Chuka, President and Founder of the Xtreme Search Reality Television Show, presented the N1 million cash prize to Amakiri at the inaugural edition of the programme.

He said the show was sponsored by Psalmist Missionary Global, which recently introduced the first Christian-based reality television competition in Nigeria and Africa.

Chuka said the idea was developed in response to increasing moral decline in society, with the aim of promoting godliness, sound morals, cultural integrity, and Christian values.

“This project offers a more meaningful alternative that positively impacts the young people, unlike other reality television shows that tend to glorify immorality,” he remarked.

He noted that the programme was also created to support undergraduates and graduates struggling with unemployment.

“Many of us who are graduates recall the sacrifices we made to acquire a university education. It is deeply troubling that, after such significant investment, so many graduates find themselves unemployed. This platform is our way of empowering one of them with a N1 million cash prize,” he said.

Chuka explained that contestants were chosen through online applications on the organiser’s website—psalmistmissionaryglobal.org/theextremesearch—as well as in-person screening.

He shared plans to expand the show and increase the prize money to reach more unemployed graduates and undergraduates.

Chuka also called on public-spirited individuals, companies, and government agencies to collaborate with the show in pursuit of its humanitarian goals.
