The Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme is reaching out to the chairmen of the 23 local government areas in the state to secure sponsorship for more residents to enroll in its health insurance scheme.
The initiative aims to expand the number of individuals who can benefit from the agency’s healthcare coverage. Dr. Vetty Agala, the Acting Executive Secretary of the program, made the appeal during an advocacy visit to the Chairman of Okrika Local Government Area.
Dr. Agala explained that the Federal Government, through the National Health Insurance Authority, has set a target for Rivers State to enroll a total of 68,874 individuals to benefit from the Basic Health Care Provision Fund.
In a significant development, Dr. Agala revealed that Governor Siminialayi Fubara has increased the enrollment target to 100,000 beneficiaries, surpassing the federal limit. This change reflects the state government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare access for its residents.
The initiative underscores the state’s efforts to improve health outcomes and ensure that more citizens have access to essential healthcare services through the contributory health insurance scheme.
