An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday ordered the remand of two individuals, Olaitan Fasasi, 40, and Kehinde Tobiloba, 26, in a correctional facility over alleged attempted murder.

The defendants, whose addresses were not disclosed, are facing charges of conspiracy, attempted murder, and membership of an unlawful society.

Magistrate L.A. Owolabi declined to take their plea due to lack of jurisdiction and instructed the police to forward the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice. The matter was adjourned to 31 May for mention.

The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that the offences were committed at about 5:02 p.m. on 15 February in Mushin, Lagos.

She alleged that Fasasi, Tobiloba, and others still at large attempted to murder a resident, Alfred Ademola, by shooting at him with a locally made firearm.

“They armed themselves with a locally made gun. They belong to Eiye Confraternity, a group proscribed by law,” she said.

Ikhayere stated that the offences contravene Sections 230(1) and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2012, as well as Section 2(3)(a)(b)(c)(d) of the Unlawful Societies and Cultism Law of Lagos State, 2021.
