A 19-year-old, Afolabi Stephen, was on Wednesday, arraigned before the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for the alleged theft of a cell phone valued at N600,000.
Stephen, whose address was not disclosed, is facing a charge of theft.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 3 at Ikoro-Ekiti. He alleged that Stephen stole a handset valued at N600,000, belonging to one Akinloye Ayo.
Oriyomi stated that the offence contravened Section 302(1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021, and urged the court to adjourn the case to allow him time to study the case file and present his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Counsel for the defendant, Mr Gboyega Abiola, requested that the court grant bail, assuring that his client would not abscond.
In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
The case was adjourned until June 2 for hearing.
