The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, has lauded the scheme’s contribution to uniting young Nigerians across different backgrounds.

He made the remarks on Tuesday during a working visit to the temporary NYSC orientation camp in Kaduna.

Nafiu described the NYSC as a praiseworthy initiative by the Nigerian Government and its founder, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (Rtd.), noting that it has helped bridge religious, ethnic, and social divides among the youth.

He emphasised that as future leaders, young people benefit immensely from the NYSC’s efforts to instil unity, discipline, and valuable skills.

“By fostering unity, discipline, and skill development, NYSC positively impacts the lives of Nigerian youths,” he said.

Nafiu also underscored the importance of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme and encouraged corps members to take full advantage of it.

He advised corps members to use social media wisely and represent both themselves and the NYSC in a positive light.

Commending their discipline, he noted that the NYSC promotes the idea of a united Nigeria.

He thanked the state government for supporting the scheme and urged corps members to maintain good character and behaviour.

Nafiu further assured that plans are underway to relocate the NYSC to a permanent site and pledged to address the concerns raised.

Earlier, the State Coordinator, Mrs Murna Dadaza, outlined challenges related to the temporary nature of the camp.

She appealed for the Director-General’s intervention and appreciated his continued support.

She also expressed gratitude to the Kaduna State Government, security agencies, and stakeholders for their backing of the NYSC in the state.
