The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano Command, says 68 inmates have successfully passed the 2025 National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Musbahu Lawan, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Kano, noting that the achievement was made possible under the Centre for Inmates’ Continuity Education with full sponsorship from the Kano State Government.
He said the initiative reflected the provisions of the Correctional Service Act, 2019, which prioritises rehabilitation and reformation of inmates through education and vocational training.
“This success also reflects the directive of the Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Indidi-Nwakuche, urging all custodial centres nationwide to enrol inmates in academic and vocational programmes. The aim is to equip them with skills and knowledge that will aid their reintegration into society as responsible and productive citizens. This effort aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed, focused on transforming the lives of Nigerians, including those in custodial facilities,” he said.
Lawan added that the inmates expressed joy over their performance, describing it as a turning point in their lives.
He quoted the Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Ado Inuwa, as commending the success and wishing the beneficiaries well in their reformation journey.
Similarly, Chairperson of the Prerogative of Mercy, Hajiya Azumi Namadi-Bebeje, congratulated the inmates and praised Governor Abba Yusuf for his compassion and commitment to inmate welfare.
She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the lives of inmates through educational opportunities that would empower them to become positive ambassadors for society.
