No fewer than 500 undergraduates from the Northern Senatorial District of Cross River have received bursary support from Sen. Jarigbe Agom-Jarigbe.

The lawmaker disclosed this in an interview with correspondence in Calabar on Wednesday, noting that the initiative was aimed at easing the financial burden on parents amid the prevailing economic hardship.

Agom-Jarigbe, who has implemented several empowerment programmes in his constituency, said education remained a priority in his intervention projects.

“The process was seamless. One hundred beneficiaries were selected from each of the five local government areas that make up the senatorial district,” he said.

According to him, the bursary award, which cost N50 million, reflects his commitment to supporting the academic pursuits of indigent students.

“I am happy to be able to put smiles on the faces of some of our students, and we can only pray for the enablement to do more,” he added.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Franklin Ikpong, described the gesture as unprecedented in the district’s history.

He said the support not only boosted his Master’s degree programme in Anatomy but also served as a source of hope and motivation.

Similarly, another beneficiary, Tony Adah, applauded the initiative and urged other politicians to emulate the senator’s example.
