Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State, will graduate 1,341 undergraduates during its 17th convocation ceremony, with 185 students earning first-class honours.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shadrach Akindele, disclosed this during a press briefing held to mark the 17th convocation and the 20th anniversary of the institution on Monday in Ede.

Akindele said 662 students would receive second-class upper degrees, 410 would earn second-class lower degrees, 79 would graduate with third-class degrees, and five would obtain pass degrees.

He added that the best graduating student, Joel Durigbo, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, achieved a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0.

According to him, 338 students would also be awarded higher degrees and diplomas at the postgraduate level on 10 October. These include 109 postgraduate diplomas, 65 Master of Arts degrees, 120 Master of Science degrees, 25 Master of Business Administration degrees, and 19 Doctor of Philosophy degrees.

“This year’s convocation is particularly special. We are not only graduating another distinguished class, ‘The Indomitable Set,’ but we are also celebrating 20 years of Redeemer’s University. Indeed, this is a season of double honour, and we return all glory to God,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor announced that honorary degrees would be conferred on the wife of a former Governor of Kwara State, Omolewa Ahmed; the President of Mount Zion Faith Ministries, Mike Bamiloye; and the Group Managing Director of Sahara Group, Kola Adeshina.

He further revealed that the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) had selected Redeemer’s University as one of only eight private universities in Nigeria approved to train TETFund-sponsored candidates for postgraduate degrees — a distinction achieved among 168 private institutions nationwide.

Akindele also noted that the university had been listed in the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking, emerging second overall in Nigeria and first in several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) categories.
